Second period, 3:10, Maine 4-0: Maine is spending a lot of time in the attacking zone thanks to quick puck movement, a good cycle game and winning puck battles along the boards. It’s rare when a Maine shift doesn’t end with at least one shot attempted.

To be fair to the Terriers, they are taking chances offensively to get back into the game, and that will result in odd-man rushes up ice for the Black Bears.

Second Period, 0:01, Maine 4-0 : The second period is underway!

First Intermission: There will be a shortened five-minute intermission break so the teams can play as much of this game as possible. The rain has returned. The second period will begin soon.

After the stoppage, O’Connor made two fantastic saves, one of which was on a rebound shot when he was already down on the ice. He’s keeping the Terriers in the game right now. Maine has a 9-6 shot on goal advantage and has created the majority of the quality scoring chances.

Shortly after those saves, BU got a power-play when Ryan Lomberg was given a two-minute penalty.

First period, 7:31, Maine 2-0: On the first play after a lengthy rain delay, Maine defenseman Ben Hutton scored on a point shot that found its way through traffic and past O’Connor. It was a power-play goal.

2:40 p.m.: The Boston University Terriers and the Maine Black Bears will conclude Frozen Fenway 2014 with a fantastic matchup featuring two of Hockey East’s top programs.

This is the first time these two schools have played since Maine defeated BU 7-0 on home ice in mid-November. At 7-10-2 (2-4-1 in Hockey East), Saturday afternoon’s game is incredibly important for the Terriers as they attempt to climb out of the bottom part of the league standings.

“This is a very important league game for us,” BU head coach David Quinn said on Friday. “We’re 2-4 in the league right now. And all of a sudden you’re 2-5 and it’s a 20-game league season, it’s a hole to dig yourself out of early in league play. If you win, you’re 3-4 and you see .500 and the light at the end of the tunnel, and it can change your mindset.”

Puck drop is scheduled for 3:20 p.m. ET, and the weather could play a major role in the outcome of the game. It’s raining steadily in the pre-game warmups and precipitation is expected to fall throughout the entire contest.
