Martin St. Louis getting snubbed by Team Canada might have been the best thing for the forward’s game.

The 38-year-old has responded to being left off the Olympic roster by elevating his play to a whole different level of late and the Tampa Bay Lightning are certainly benefiting from his contributions. St. Louis has been scoring at a torrid pace and his hot streak continued against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.

St. Louis recorded a first-period hat trick and added another goal in the second period for good measure. While all of the winger’s goals were impressive in their own right, St. Louis’ second tally of the day is certainly deserving of some extra praise.

After driving to the net on a breakaway, St. Louis’ initial shot was stopped by Sharks goaltender Antti Niemi. The play didn’t stop there, however, as St. Louis served as his own rebound man and reached behind him to bury the puck into the back of the net with a seemingly impossible backhand.
