Richard Sherman has an important man on his side.

NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith backed the Seattle Seahawks cornerback and blasted NFL commissioner Roger Goodell this week. Smith told Sherman he was “proud” of his comments after the Seahawks’ NFC Championship Game win over the San Francisco 49ers, when Sherman famously called the 49ers’ Michael Crabtree a “sorry receiver.”

Smith appeared on CBS This Morning and said Goodell was “wrong” when he said Sherman’s comments took away from the Seahawks’ win. Sherman has since backed down and apologized.

Sherman and his Seahawks are preparing to face the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII on Sunday. Sherman has stayed away from controversial statements this week, choosing instead to pump up his teammates.
