Update: Ryan Allen will not return to Saturday’s game against the Colts, according to the Patriots’ official Twitter account.

New England Patriots punter Ryan Allen suffered a shoulder injury in the second quarter of Saturday’s AFC divisional playoff game against the Indianapolis Colts. His return is questionable, according to the Patriots’ official Twitter account.

Allen suffered the injury after long snapper Danny Aiken overshot the Patriots punter. Allen raced back in an attempt to recover the loose football but was walloped by a bevy of Colts defenders. The ball traveled through the back of the end zone for a safety, and Allen was left shaken up.

Kicker Stephen Gostkowski has taken over the Patriots’ punting duties for the time being. His first punt — the first of his NFL career — traveled 53 yards.
