76ers Bynum BasketballWith Andrew Bynum a newly minted free agent, any team in the NBA can now sign him at whatever price he’s willing to accept. His first choices are the defending champion Miami Heat and the title hopeful Los Angeles Clippers, so he’s aiming high, anyway.

At least one of those teams is a bit reluctant to take a flier on Bynum, though, based on how his end with the Cleveland Cavaliers went down.

The Clips are “leaning away” from signing Bynum, Brad Turner of The Los Angeles Times reports. Turner cites “too many issues” from Bynum’s final days in Cleveland as the reason for L.A.’s concern.

This is far from surprising — and perhaps a little encouraging. The worst thing that could happen is for Bynum to get rewarded with a spot on a contending team and then coasting his way to a ring. Life’s not fair, but that would be brutal to watch for anyone who’s ever taken pride in putting in an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay.
