The Dolphins offered their general manager position to Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio, but he has decided to stay in New England, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Caserio interviewed with the Dolphins on Friday and Saturday.

Caserio was hired by the Patriots as a personnel assistant in 2001. He moved up to an offensive coaching assistant in 2002 before taking over as an area scout in 2003. He served as director of pro personnel from 2004 to 2006 before being named wide receivers coach in 2007.

Caserio has been the director of player personnel since 2008. Reports indicated that Caserio would share power within the Dolphins’ organization with head coach Joe Philbin and executive vice president of football administration Dawn Aponte.

Caserio’s role and power have increased within the Patriots’ organization. He is only below head coach/general manager Bill Belichick in New England.
