Ric Flair might not be wanted at the San Francisco 49ers-Carolina Panthers game Sunday, but he’s still a wanted man in the state of North Carolina.
The former WWE superstar drew the ire of Panthers fans when he delivered a pregame pep talk to the 49ers before their playoff matchup with the Green Bay Packers last weekend. The longtime Charlotte resident’s presumed betrayal elicited death threats from fans in advance of the 49ers and Panthers’ NFC divisional-round game, prompting Flair to announce that he won’t be at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday.
Outrageous fans might not be the real reason why Flair is staying home, however. According to the Charlotte Business Journal, Flair has an outstanding warrant in Mecklenburg County, N.C., for failing to pay more than $32,000 to his ex-wife in post-separation support and legal fees.
“On July 3, Mecklenburg District Court Judge Christy T. Mann signed an order for the arrest of one Richard Fliehr on contempt of court violations,” Charlotte Business Journal reported Thursday. “Legal documents show the former wrestler failed to meet the terms of a June 18 order.
“That order called for the wrestler to pay $32,352.51 in unpaid post-separation support and legal fees by 5 p.m. on June 27 and maintain support of his estranged spouse’s car lease and insurance and health insurance, documents show.
“Of note: the court order says Flair/Fliehr’s failure to meet the deadline means he would be required to turn himself in and ‘shall remain in the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff until he pays all sums required…’”
As of Thursday afternoon, Flair’s warrant was still outstanding, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office said.
