The Boston Red Sox are eyeing a Scott Boras client not named Stephen Drew.
Suk-Min Yoon, one of Boras’ lesser-known clients, is expected to sign with a Major League Baseball club soon. Boras told The Boston Globe’s Nick Cafardo that the Red Sox are one of “many teams” interested in the Korean right-hander.
Dan Kurtz of MyKBO.net tweeted Tuesday that Yoon has received offers from four major league teams. Yoon reportedly is negotiating with two of those clubs, although it’s unclear whether the Red Sox are involved in the discussions. Boras told Cafardo, “We’ll know more in 10 days.”
This isn’t the first time the Red Sox have been linked to Yoon, who has spent his professional career pitching for the Kia Tigers of the Korea Baseball Organization. Peter Gammons reported earlier this month that the Red Sox and Twins were interested in the 27-year-old hurler.
Yoon has been both a starter and a reliever during his pro career. His best season came in 2011, when the Korean righty went 17-5 with a 2.45 ERA in 27 appearances (23 starts) and won MVP honors.
Yoon dealt with a shoulder injury in 2013. However, MLB Trade Rumors’ Tim Dierkes wrote in October that Yoon throws a low-90s fastball and was considered the second-best pitcher in the Korea Baseball Organization behind Hyun-jin Ryu before Ryu joined the Los Angeles Dodgers last offseason.
