VinceYoungFor the majority of fans, it’s a dream to envision earning a salary similar to that of a professional athlete. For these 10 athletes, however, massive wealth ended up becoming more of a source of financial woes as opposed to a solution.

A 2009 Sports Illustrated study found that 78 percent of former NFL players went bankrupt or were suffering from severe financial stress within two years of retiring. Former NBA players didn’t fare much better, with 60 percent of them going broke within five years of retirement.

Vince Young appears to be the latest star to fall on hard financial times, so let’s use the former Tennessee Titan as inspiration and take a look, in no particular order, at some of the most prominent athletes that made, and then lost, it all.
