Sometimes in sports, there are moments that become far more important than the game itself.
The St. Louis Blues will create such a moment when they attend the Yale women’s ice hockey game Friday to honor Mandi Schwartz, the late sister of Blues winger Jaden Schwartz.
Schwartz was a 2010 first round draft pick, but the excitement that stemmed from such a life-changing moment was sobered by the fact that his sister, who was diagnosed with Leukemia in 2008, was in the hospital. Although she received a transplant, Mandi passed away in April of 2011.
Yale and the women’s hockey team honor their teammate’s memory every year with a White Out For Mandi game. This year, Jaden and his Blues teammates will be in attendance. St. Louis is currently in the middle of a three-game stretch in the New York area, and will bus to Connecticut to attend the game.
