Bruins, Penguins, TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts, Adam McQuaidBOSTON — Adam McQuaid appears closer to returning to game action, but the Bruins know they need to take every precaution necessary with the defenseman.

McQuaid skated yet again Monday at Bruins practice and now has skated at practices for almost a week straight. He has been out with a leg injury since mid-January, so the progression obviously is good news. The B’s aren’t going to rush McQuaid along, though, especially given his history with lower-body injuries.

“He’s getting better every day,” Bruins assistant coach Geoff Ward said Monday. “Obviously it’s something we don’t want to push with Adam. It’s something that he has a history of, so we want to make sure that when he comes back this time, it’s 100 percent it’s good.”

McQuaid has appeared in just 30 games this season, and he hasn’t played since Jan. 19 against the Chicago Blackhawks. He missed a month earlier in the season with a groin injury.
