The Boston Bruins are still being represented at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, but the rest of the Black and Gold returned to work Thursday morning in Wilmington, Mass.
The Bruins held their first practice at Ristuccia Arena since breaking for the Olympics following a Feb. 8 win over the Ottawa Senators at TD Garden. Boston is still without five players and head coach Claude Julien, with Patrice Bergeron, Tuukka Rask and Loui Eriksson as well as Julien still alive in the Olympic Games.
The Bruins got some good news, however, upon returning to work. Defenseman Adam McQuaid was back at practice Thursday, the first time he skated with his teammates since suffering a leg injury. He hasn’t played since Jan. 19 as an injury-riddled season continues for the 27-year-old.
The Bruins also made two minor roster moves before practice. The B’s recalled forwards Craig Cunningham and Alexander Khokhlachev from Providence, and both players were on the ice Thursday. It’s unlikely the recalls are anything more than getting them up with the big club to fill in for the missing Olympians. Khokhlachev centered the Bruins’ top line between Jarome Iginla and Milan Lucic, while Cunningham saw time as the right winger on a line with Daniel Paille and Chris Kelly.
