Russell Wilson plans to attend Texas Rangers spring training, but the second baseman/Seattle Seahawks quarterback might leave his glove at home.
Wilson, who just guided the Seahawks to victory over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII, still plans to travel to Surprise, Ariz., to attend Rangers spring training. However, Wilson’s agent, Mark Rodgers, clarified to FOX Sports’ Jon Morosi that the quarterback does not intend to participate in baseball activities.
This news hardly comes as a surprise. In fact, it would have been more surprising if Wilson threw caution to the wind, tossed on his glove and jogged out to second base to take grounders this spring. The second-year signal-caller clearly has a good thing going in the NFL.
Nevertheless, Wilson, who spent two summers in the Colorado Rockies’ farm system before being selected by the Rangers in December’s Triple-A Rule 5 draft, likely will be in Arizona for photo opportunities and such.
Rangers general manager Jon Daniels told Peter Gammons on Monday that having Wilson around would be a “great experience,” as the 25-year-old Super Bowl champ could lend some helpful advice to the organization’s younger players.
