Alex AmidonBoston College wide receiver Alex Amidon has decided to set his football dreams aside after graduation in order to become a Navy SEAL.

Amidon’s military aspirations were revealed at the 2014 BC recruiting dinner on Wednesday, according to BC Interruption.

Amidon established single-season school records for receptions (78) and receiving yards (1,210) in 2012 and owns the school record in career receptions with 191. The Greenfield, Mass., native also stunned college scouts when he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.42 seconds during his senior year of high school.

Although he was not invited to the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine, Amidon demonstrated great NFL potential and likely could have been a third-day pick, according to NFL.com. The two-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference football player will live on as a BC legend, having surpassed BC alum and former NFL tight end Pete Mitchell’s high of 190 career receptions in his final game for BC.

“To be honest, I never really gave the records much thought during the season and I still haven’t,” Amidon told the Masslive.com in January. “Perhaps a little further down the line I’ll reflect on them and what it all means, but I’m not at that point yet.”
