Berkshire Bank Faceoff: Bruins Try To Add To Roberto Luongo’s Boston Horrors

Roberto LuongoBOSTON — The last time Vancouver Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo was between the pipes in Boston, he didn’t last very long at at all.

With a chance to win the Stanley Cup right in front of he and the Canucks, Luongo melted down in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final at TD Garden in Boston. The Bruins torched Luongo for three goals in less than 10 minutes to open that game. The B’s went on to win the game, evening the series at three games apiece before heading back to Vancouver where they won the Stanley Cup in Game 7.

The Canucks returned to Boston the next season, but Vancouver tabbed Cory Schneider as its starter. It will be Luongo between the pipes in Boston on Tuesday night, though. The Canucks went with backup Eddie Lack on Monday in Detroit, which means that John Tortorella is all but certain to go with Luongo against the B’s. The veteran goalie gave up 15 goals in parts of three games in Boston during the 2011 Cup Final.

Tuukka Rask was the first goalie off at Bruins morning skate and is expected to get the start for the Bruins. He was pulled in the teams’ first two meetings of the season, a game that the Canucks won 6-2 in Vancouver on Dec. 14.
