Rowan Cheshire British Olympic SkierBritish Olympic skier Rowan Cheshire suffered a concussion after crashing into the middle of the halfpipe during a training session at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park on Sunday.

Cheshire “fell heavily on her face” and was unconscious for several minutes before being taken into a medical tent, according to The Guardian. The British Olympic Team reported she was held overnight at a local hospital for evaluation. She is scheduled to compete in Thursday’s women’s halfpipe competition but has not been medically cleared to participate yet.

The 18-year-old skier was expected to be a strong medal contender after becoming the first British woman ever to win a gold medal in the halfpipe event at January’s World Cup in Calgary.

Cheshire is not the first Olympian to endure a severe training accident in Sochi, as Russian skicross racer Maria Komissarova broke her spine on the course Saturday and underwent immediate surgery.
