Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t deserve this. Nobody does.

A fan threw a lighter from the stands and hit Ronaldo on the head during Tuesday’s Copa del Rey (Spanish Cup) semifinal between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

The incident occurred at Atletico Madrid’s Vicente Calderon Stadium, and the object came from a section congregated by the home team’s fans.

Ronaldo and teammate Sergio Ramos were walking toward the tunnel at halftime when the flying object pelted him. Ronaldo fell to the ground, and medical staff quickly tended to him. Ronaldo was well enough to play 30 minutes in the second half before manager Carlo Ancelotti subtstituted him for Jese.

Atletico Madrid condemned the fan’s action, according to Goal.com.

“We reject the attitude of those fans,” Atletico spokesman Clemente Villaverde said after the game. “Nobody should throw anything.

“They should get behind the team. It’s an isolated act and we have identified the person who threw the lighter. We’ll have to wait for the referee’s report to see what can be done.”

Before the lighter struck Ronaldo, he had already scored two first-half goals, which helped his team earn a 5-0 aggregate victory over its city rival and book a place in the final.
