Czech snowboarder Sarka Pancochova fell so hard in the women’s slopestyle finals on Sunday that her silver helmet split in half.
The crash occurred after Pancochova missed a landing, which caused her head to snap back and hit the slope. The medical team immediately tended to Pancochova, who was immobile for a few moments until she somehow mustered up enough strength to finish the course.
With a score of 86.25 in the first round, Pancochova was believed to be a strong contender for the gold medal until her major fall ultimately brought her to fifth place. But judging from her impressive rebound and the deafening cheers of supportive fans, she is just grateful to have finished at all.
