Daniel NavaLegendary broadcaster Bob Uecker revealed last week that a Major League IV movie is in the works, which is exciting news for fans of the hilarious baseball-inspired film series.

While Major League obviously represents a work of fiction, there are some other critically acclaimed baseball films, such as 42 and Eight Men Out, that have tackled real-life storylines. Some future films likely will look to do the same, perhaps with events or subjects that we’re currently witnessing.

This raises an interesting question. Which Major League Baseball players currently playing would make good movie subjects? In other words, whose career is fascinating enough — or has the potential to be fascinating enough — to someday be a box office hit?

Alex Rodriguez’s career has been interesting, to say the least, and the well-documented events of the past year would make for an intriguing film. A-Rod’s downfall is just one potential cinematic endeavor, though, as players like Daniel Nava and Evan Gattis have feel-good back stories that would make for compelling movies.

Let’s be clear that this is completely hypothetical. Who knows whether any of these players someday will be approached about having their respective careers turned into a movie? If a filmmaker is searching for ideas, though, these potential subjects deserve some attention.
