The Boston Bruins took a huge hit on Dec. 28, and it was a hit that some think will end up coming back to hurt the B’s when it really matters most.
Boston saw one of its most important players go down late in a blowout win over the Ottawa Senators when Dennis Seidenberg got tied up with Cory Conacher behind the Bruins net. It was a seemingly harmless play, but the result was anything but. Conacher fell on top of Seidenberg whose leg was, twisting at the same time.
The end result was a torn ACL and MCL for Seidenberg, which will force the veteran defenseman to miss the rest of the season. The injury seemed crippling at first to many, and the early results following the injury seemed to back that up. The Bruins struggled defensively without Seidenberg in the mix, and it looked like leaning on a stable of young defenseman might not be enough.
However, the corps of young D-men mixed with veterans like Zdeno Chara and Johnny Boychuk have started to come around. Their game has improved, and the Bruins are starting to adjust to life without Seidenberg. Whether they’re able to still make a deep run into the playoffs without one of their top blue liners is something that’s yet to be seen. Regardless, the injury to Seidenberg is one of the most defining moments of the Bruins’ schedule so far this season.
