Dense Sochi Fog Stalls Several Winter Olympic Events (Photos)

Mother Nature continues to wreak havoc on the 2014 Winter Olympics.

A patch of thick fog rolled through Sochi on Monday, forcing Olympic organizers to postpone the men’s biathlon (which already had been rescheduled once) and men’s snowboardcross events. Both are now scheduled for Tuesday, weather permitting.

“This is standard for snowboarding and ski events,” American snowboardcross rider Nate Holland told The Associated Press. “Mother Nature doesn’t always cooperate.”

Unseasonably warm temperatures were an issue last week, forcing cross-country skiers to navigate through thick, wet snow and making a mess of the Olympic halfpipe. Warm, wet conditions are expected in the area throughout the early part of the week, which could lead to more postponements.
