Immediately following Sunday’s firing of Maurice Cheeks, Detroit Pistons fans created an official online White House petition insisting that Rasheed Wallace be named the team’s new head coach.

One of the ringleaders of the petition was particularly adamant about Sheed taking on the new role.

Wallace played for the Pistons for six seasons and is currently one of their assistant coaches. He retired from the NBA just last year.

The Pistons appointed John Loyer as interim head coach. Loyer has been an assistant coach in the NBA for 11 seasons and has been working with the Pistons since 2011.

“Our record does not reflect our talent, and we simply need a change,” Pistons owner Tom Gores said in an official release. “I still have a lot of hope for this season, and I expect our players to step up.”

The fans aimed to receive 100,000 signatures, but they had only 164 before the website removed the petition because of a terms of participation violation.

Some fans are not happy.
