Donte Stallworth: Patriots Can Handle ‘Distractions’ Michael Sam Would Bring

Donte Stallworth has some strong words for any team that believes Michael Sam wouldn’t be worth the “distractions” he would bring.

The former New England Patriots wide receiver said teams will be able to plan for the increased media scrutiny that will come with Sam, the first openly gay NFL draft prospect. With teams dealing with so many unplanned distractions during the course of a season, the Missouri defensive end should be easy to handle.

Stallworth also said the Patriots proved they can handle unplanned distractions when they went 12-4 in 2013 after Aaron Hernandez was arrested and the team signed Tim Tebow. The media presence around Gillette Stadium increased last June, but it was gone by the time the season started.
