Florida Panthers Fans Can Trade Non-Winning Scratch Tickets For Game Tickets

florida panthersThe Florida Panthers’ attendance problems have been well-documented. Ice hockey isn’t exactly a huge draw in South Florida, especially for a team that hasn’t won a playoff series in 18 years.

This season, the Panthers stink again (21-27-7, the second-worst record in the Eastern Conference), and an average of 14,710 fans turn out for each game at the BB&T Center, good for 27th in the league. So, the team is getting creative.

The Panthers announced Tuesday that any fan who turns in $10 worth of non-winning (yes, non-winning) Florida Lottery scratch tickets will receive one upper-level ticket to a Tuesday or Thursday home game of his or her choice.

The promotion runs through March 29, but February might be the best time to get in on the action. The Panthers host the Toronto Maple Leafs this Tuesday, the Detroit Red Wings this Thursday and the Washington Capitals on Feb. 27 in their first game after the Olympic break. The March slate is far less compelling, with the Phoenix Coyotes, Ottawa Senators and Carolina Hurricanes filling Florida’s only Tuesday/Thursday home dates.
