Joba Chamberlain lost nearly all of the 2011 baseball season to Tommy John surgery. But now, he’s turned the aftereffects of that injury into a little comic relief.

The Detroit Free Press posted a sequence of photos Wednesday revealing that Chamberlain, who signed with the Tigers in the offseason after spending his entire career with the New York Yankees, used four small tattoos on the inside of his elbow to turn his Tommy John scar into a smiley face.

It’s incredibly creative — and also a little creepy at the same time.
