Fenway Park has gotten better with age.
A $285 million facelift over the course of a decade will help just about anything battling Father Time, and according to principal owner John Henry, the expiration date for the Boston Red Sox’s ballpark isn’t anytime soon.
Henry spoke to the media Wednesday in Fort Myers and said no major changes are planned for the oldest park in MLB. Some adjustments are needed, however (such as the press box and upper sections behind home plate), as The Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham points out, but Fenway will remain as is for “decades,” at least, Henry says.
“You won’t see major changes. Those, I think, have been explored, thought about and accomplished,” Henry said. “Structurally there is an expiration date. Someone at some point in decades ahead will have to address the possibility of a new ballpark.”
