Nebraska’s Bo Pelini Wrestles Offensive Lineman During Recruiting Visit

Bo PeliniNebraska head coach Bo Pelini is a polarizing figure in college football, and since recruiting the best players in Big Ten country is a difficult challenge, he’s not afraid to get a little creative when trying to impress highly rated prospects.

At a recent in-home recruiting visit, Pelini actually wrestled with four-star offensive lineman Tanner Farmer, according to a report.

“‘I bet you can’t take me down,’ Pelini joked with Tanner,” per Sam McKewon of Omaha.com. “Farmer hesitated. Pelini is pretty tall and in good shape. But he’s not a wrestler.

“‘Go on, boy,’ Brian [Farmer] told his son. ‘If he wants to go, go.’

“‘You scared to take me down?’ Pelini said to Tanner.

“The strongest player in Nebraska’s 2014 class got Pelini in a hold and lifted him up in the air. There, a potential takedown turned into a big hug between coach and player.”

The bold and strange tactic worked for Pelini, as Farmer ended up committing to the Cornhuskers’ 2014 recruiting class. Nebraska’s class is 39th in ESPN’s latest 2014 rankings.

Nebraska went 9-4 (5-3 Big Ten) last season and defeated Georgia 24-19 in the Gator Bowl. The Cornhuskers are projected to be among the top contenders in the conference’s Legends division next year.
