Kenyon Martin has added his name to the list of NBA players speaking out on sleeved jerseys.
In an interview with TMZ, the New York Knicks’ power forward said he thinks sleeved jerseys are for women.
“I think they’re WNBA jerseys,” Martin said.
The NBA first unveiled the sleeved jerseys during the 2013 Christmas Day games. The new jerseys made their latest appearance this past weekend at the 2014 NBA All-Star Game.
Since their debut, it seems the jerseys have only bothered NBA players. A poll of 21 players that Bleacher Report conducted, which included three league MVPs and five All-Stars, revealed only two athletes would support wearing sleeved jerseys on a full-time basis. The main concern some players have with the sleeved style is the restriction of motion the sleeves might cause.
Martin went on to note that the NBA trying to put sleeves on their jerseys is “all about money.” Adidas’ head of global marketing told USA Today that sales of the sleeved jerseys have “exceeded expectations.”
“It’s the job, you got to wear the company uniform,” Martin said. “I’ve been a company man for 14 years so I’ve got to ride with it.”
As far as Martin deeming sleeves a girl thing goes, the WNBA has yet to unveil sleeved jerseys for their own players.
