Olympic Ski Race Ends With Spectacular, Crash-Filled Finish (Photos)

The Sochi skicross course turned into demolition derby Thursday, leading to one of the most ridiculous photo finishes of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

During one quarterfinal run, three of the four skiers participating lost their footing after the final jump. Switzerland’s Armin Niederer had no trouble with the last landing and was thus able to cruise to victory, but Russia’s Egor Korotkov, Sweden’s Victor Norberg and Finland’s Jouni Pellinen all wiped out and skidded the final few meters of the race on their backs.

Ultimately, it was Korotkov who nabbed second place by extending his arms over the finish line, earning the Russian a spot in the semis.

Kortkov and Niederer went on to finish fifth and seventh, respectively, in the final, with France sweeping the podium.
