Josh McDanielsThe New England Patriots have a new connection at Rutgers University.

Rutgers is expected to hire Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels’ brother, Ben McDaniels, as an offensive assistant, a source told NJ.com. Ben McDaniels was an offensive assistant on Greg Schiano’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers staff in 2013. Schiano was Rutgers’ head coach from 2001 to 2011.

The Patriots drafted three Rutgers players in 2013. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick’s oldest son, Stephen Belichick, also was a long snapper with the Scarlet Knights. Belichick has a good relationship with Schiano.

Since Schiano has been gone for two years, it looked like the Patriots were losing their ties to the program. With McDaniels’ brother stepping in, that connection is back.
