Chris Johnson, Jeff GreenJeff Green could become the latest player to fulfill the Atlanta Hawks’ fetish for inefficient and underachieving basketball players.

Hey, we’ve all got our things.

Less than two full seasons removed from ridding themselves of both Joe Johnson and Josh Smith, the Hawks are reportedly pursuing Green in a trade with the Boston Celtics. Green is being “shopped hard” by the Celtics, Mitch Lawrence of the New York Daily News reports, and the Hawks have interest.

Although light on details, Lawrence tweeted that role-playing guard/forward DeMarre Carroll could be part of the mix. Carroll would need to be part of a larger package, since he makes only $2.5 million. Green, who has two more years remaining on his contract, makes $8.7 million this season. The Hawks can take on some extra money because they are under the salary cap, but trade rules still prohibit such a lopsided financial swap.

Green is averaging 16.3 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. He and Brandon Bass are the only Celtics players to appear in all 51 games for the team this season. His 13.7 player efficiency rating is sixth on the team, below bit player Kris Humphries as well as the since-departed Jordan Crawford and Courtney Lee.
