Robin van Persie’s days at Manchester United might be numbered.
Van Persie is “uncertain about continuing at the club” because of the changes Manchester United has made under first-year manager David Moyes, the Guardian reports.
“It is understood that Van Persie was particularly disappointed when Sir Alex Ferguson, Moyes’s predecessor, retired at the end of last season,” the report says. “Ferguson was a key factor in Van Persie agreeing to sign for United from Arsenal in the summer of 2012, even though Manchester City had offered him a higher salary.”
Van Persie, 30, joined the Red Devils from Arsenal in August 2012. After sealing the controversial £24 million ($40 million) switch, van Persie fired Manchester United to the Premier League title in what was ultimately Ferguson’s last season in charge.
But Van Persie has battled injuries in 2013-14, and Manchester United’s has struggled throughout the season.
On Tuesday, the Dutch striker voiced his frustration at Manchester United’s tactics under Moyes, saying his teammates run into the areas in which he thrives, making it difficult for him to score goals.
Van Persie’s contract expires in 2016, and Manchester United would be loath to sell him at a discount this summer.
Barring injury, van Persie play for Manchester United until the end of the season in May before captaining the Netherlands at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Time will tell what he will do afterward that.
