Russell Wilson Pete CarrollWhen all of America was yelling at the Denver Broncos to hit the showers during Super Bowl XLVIII, fans weren’t being mean. They were trying to help.

The Seattle Seahawks apparently broke out the suds while Bruno Mars and the Red Hot Chili Peppers were taking care of halftime duties, and Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson says it helped.

“This is what I did at halftime, and a lot guys did, too — I took my whole uniform off and took a shower,” he said on “The Dan Patrick Show” on Tuesday. “Halftime is about 45 minutes, so I took a shower, retaped everything, got my arm stretched again, and then we got into a whole ’nother stretch again.”

The Seahawks, who already led 22-0 after dominating the first half and stifling the Broncos’ offense, scored another 21 points after intermission. The play that really put it away, though, was the one right after the stage was packed up: Percy Harvin caught the second-half kickoff and returned it 87 yards for a touchdown.

Seattle stretching just a few minutes before might have played a role in the burst.

“That kind of restarted our minds again,” Wilson said. “So we came out of halftime, and it felt like it was a brand-new game. So that’s why I think we played so well, and everyone was clicking on all cylinders, and we played a great football game.”

The Seahawks notably did not have any players who had been to a Super Bowl before — although the Broncos’ handful of big-game returnees included Wes Welker, who has been known to shower just a bit too long.
