Maria KomissarovaThere have been crashes and falls so far during the 2014 Winter Olympics, but nothing as serious as the injury suffered by Russian skicross racer Maria Komissarova.

Komissarova was injured on the course while training for the skicross event in Sochi on Saturday, and The Associated Press reports that she suffered a broken and dislocated spine after a fall. The skier underwent emergency surgery at a hospital close to the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park, the same park that garnered criticism by snowboarders at the games.

International Ski Federation spokeswoman Jenny Wiedeke said the accident occurred on a series of jumps near the top of the course and that Komissarova, 23, fell while going off the third jump.
