After trading starting goaltender Ryan Miller to the St. Louis Blues in a multi-player deal on Friday, the Buffalo Sabres found themselves lacking a backup goalie for their game against the San Jose Sharks.

Enter: Ryan Vinz, the Director of Hockey Technology for the Sabres-owned Harbor Center and former Sabres video scout. With Jonas Enroth getting the start against the Sharks, Vinz got the call to dress as the team’s emergency backup.

Luckily for Vinz, he didn’t see any game action in Buffalo’s 4-2 win, but it would have been quite the spectacle if he had to step between the pipes.

The Sabers weren’t the only team to find themselves with some extra room on the bench. The Blues sent their starting goalie Jaroslav Halak to Buffalo as part of the Miller trade, and ran into the same problem the Sabres found themselves in.

See their solution and the Blues’ newest backup goaltender in the tweet below. Jeff Tyni and Vinz will certainly have quite the story to tell their family and friends about a wild day at work.
