Slapshot Classic: New Red Sox Catcher A.J. Pierzynski Tries Hockey (Video)

A.J. Pierzynski grew up in Florida, so he didn’t play a lot of hockey in his spare time.

The new Boston Red Sox catcher showed Tuesday night that he clearly spent more time in the sun than on the ice when he took his turn in the Slapshot Classic. Pierzynski shot way wide of the net in his first few tries before he started hitting his target. It was a little too late, though, as Pierzynski scored just two points, tying with John Lackey for last place in the spring-training competition in Fort Myers, Fla.

Check out Pierzynski’s attempt in the video above, and check out the overall standings below.

1. Jon Lester: 7 points

2. Grady Sizemore: 6 points

3. David Ross: 4 points

4. John Lackey: 2 points

5. AJ Pierzinski: 2 points
