The city of Seattle historically has had a rough go of things in the sports department, and the city’s most successful team didn’t get its due in the coverage of the Seattle Seahawks’ Super Bowl win.
After the Seahawks dominated the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII, many sports media outlets latched onto the storyline that the Hawks were the city’s only championship team besides the 1979 Seattle Supersonics. That nugget of trivia rubbed a few of the city’s professional basketball players the wrong way.
The Seattle Storm won the 2004 and 2010 WNBA championships, and Storm president and CEO Karen Bryant took to social media after the Super Bowl to gripe about the inaccurate portrayal of the Seahawks as the city’s only champions.
