Emergency Backup Goaltender, 43, Signs With Wild In His Third NHL Stint

goalRob Laurie is becoming an NHL journeyman, and he’s never been signed to more than an emergency goaltender contract.

Laurie’s services were most recently required by the Minnesota Wild when starting goaltender Darcy Kuemper suffered an injury during practice. Laurie will serve as a backup to Ilya Bryzgalov when they take on the Los Angeles Kings.

The 43-year-old California resident has previously served as an emergency backup for both the Vancouver Canucks and the Anaheim Ducks.

If this pattern continues, it might only be a matter of time before Laurie ends up seeing some game action. For his sake, though, let’s hope it doesn’t happen against the Kings.
