Aqib Talib only was gone for a few hours before he started giving away the New England Patriots’ deep, dark secrets.
Talib, who joined the Denver Broncos on Tuesday, was asked about his “chronic” hip injury in his introductory news conference Wednesday. Talib said he hadn’t suffered a hip injury since his days with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, despite what the Patriots said.
“That was in Tampa, that was the right side,” Talib told the media about his hip. “I haven’t had a hip problem since Tampa. The Patriots have their way of reporting stuff, but I haven’t had a hip problem since Tampa. The injury I had was actually a quad injury, it was reported as a hip injury, but that’s how they do things.”
NFL teams can be fined for misreporting injuries on their practice reports. Talib was listed on the Patriots’ injury report with a hip ailment after he was hurt midway through a Week 6 win over the New Orleans Saints. Talib missed the next three weeks with his “hip” injury.
Talib was traded from the Buccaneers to the Patriots before the 2012 NFL trade deadline. He signed a six-year, $57 million contract with the Broncos with $26 million guaranteed.
