New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick doesn’t grade NFL draft prospects by round, instead taking a more football-minded approach.

Former Cleveland Browns general manager Phil Savage worked with Belichick during the mid-1990s as a scout. Savage tweeted out Belichick’s approach to the draft.

ESPN reporter Field Yates, who worked with Belichick as a scouting intern, voiced a similar take on Twitter in February. So it appears Belchick’s approach has not changed since coming to New England.

So, when fans and analysts are confused that Belichick has taken a safety like Tavon Wilson or Duron Harmon higher than “draft experts” have them ranked, take solace that there is a method to his madness.
