Boston College, Boston University Advance To Women’s Hockey East Title Game

BC UVMThe next chapter in the intense rivalry between Boston College and Boston University hockey will be written on Sunday when the two schools meet in the women’s Hockey East tournament championship game.

The Eagles advanced to the final with a 3-1 victory over Vermont on Saturday at Hyannis Youth and Community Center. Junior forward Kate Leary scored her first career hat trick in a phenomenal performance. The Eagles star tallied a goal in each period as the Catamounts struggled to stop Boston College from dominating possession and creating lots of scoring chances.

If the Eagles defeat BU on Sunday, they will set a new single-season school record with 28 wins.

As for Boston University, it advanced to the title game with a 3-2 win over Northeastern. Sophomore forward Rebecca Russo led the Terriers offense with a goal and an assist. BU center Maddie Elia and left winger Sarah Lefort also scored.

Northeastern made it interesting with a goal at 15:43 of the third period to trim the Terriers lead to one, but the Huskies were unable to find the equalizer in the closing minutes of regulation.

The women’s Hockey East title game is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in Hyannis.
