C.J. Spiller, Brandon Spikes, Joe VellanoFormer New England Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes could soon reunite with his old position coach Pepper Johnson.

The Buffalo Bills, who hired Johnson as their new defensive line coach, are hosting Spikes on a free-agent visit on Friday. Johnson served as the Patriots’ linebackers coach in 2012 and 2013 after previously coaching New England’s inside linebackers and defensive line.

Johnson always seemed to take a special liking to Spikes. The two could frequently be found jogging next to each other during Patriots warmups at practice.

Spikes’ four-year tenure with the Patriots ended tumultuously. He was placed on injured reserve in January when he reportedly failed to show up for a team meeting after a snow storm.

Bills general manager Doug Whaley announced on Friday that Kiko Alonso would move from middle linebacker to outside linebacker, leaving a void at his old position. Spikes started at middle linebacker for the Patriots from 2011 to 2013.
