Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge have become Liverpool’s most prolific goal-scoring tandem in 50 years, but Brendan Rodgers wouldn’t exactly call them partners.
The Liverpool manager told reporters Wednesday that the “SAS” duo scores so many goals because of their individual qualities, rather than a mutual understanding.
“Him (Sturridge) and Luis, I don’t see them as a pair,” Rodgers said following Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Sunderland, according to LiverpoolFC.com. “I know there is a lot written and said about them as a partnership, but I don’t see them as that. They are both soloists. They have different qualities.
“They play in the same area of the team and look to combine, but both of them offer different qualities to the team. Long may it continue. Hopefully they can continue to score goals.”
Suarez is the Premier League’s leading scorer with 28 goals. Sturridge is second with 20, having gained membership in the 20-goal club by scoring the game-winner against Sunderland.
Sturridge’s 20th league goal this season put the “SAS” duo in select company.

Rodgers might be right. He might not. Regardless, no one ever said soloists can’t combine to make sweet music.
