Daniel Briere: Alexei Emelin Made Bruins Lose Their Heads In Habs’ Win

Monday night’s game between the Boston Bruins and rival Montreal Canadiens was a heated, heavy-hitting affair, with the Habs ultimately ending the B’s impressive win streak at 12 games with a 2-1 shootout victory.

Some aspects of the rivalry continued after the game, when Bruins forward Milan Lucic — angered by the location of Alexei Emelin’s first-period hip check — called the Canadiens defenseman a “chicken” for going low.

Emelin’s teammate, Daniel Briere, was asked Tuesday about Lucic’s “chicken” comment. Check out the tweets below to read through Briere’s response.

Whether or not the hit was too low will remain up for debate, as no penalty was called and the NHL isn’t pursuing action against Emelin. There’s no doubt, however, that it added to an extensive history of dislike between the teams that only seems to grow larger every time they play.

The Bruins and Canadiens don’t meet again in the regular season, but they’d definitely make for a very competitive playoff series.
