Creighton basketball star Doug McDermott channeled his inner Larry BirdĀ for Sports Illustrated.

The SI cover recreates the famous 1977 shot in which Bird posed with two Indiana State cheerleaders. The 1977 cover caption read “College Basketball’s Secret Weapon: The Explosive Larry Bird.” In 2014, it’s “College Basketball’s Secret Weapon: The Dynamic Doug McDermott.” The only noticeable difference between the SI covers is the length of McDermott’s shorts.

McDermott, the leading scorer in the nation this season, has averaged more than 20 points per game since the 2011-12 season. He recently became the eighth player in NCAA history to score 3,000 points and is now seventh on the NCAA all-time leading scorers list.
