Former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling had a successful surgery last month after announcing he has cancer, but he is undergoing radiation and will need more surgery, according to ABC5 in Boston.
“Week 2 begins with radiation and unfortunately more surgery,” Schilling said Monday. “Not gonna break me, though, way too much faith in Him and love from friends and family.”
Current Red Sox players tweeted their support for Schilling in February after he announced his cancer diagnosis. Schilling has not said what type of cancer he has.
Schilling, now an analyst for ESPN, retired from baseball following the 2007 season.
Schilling, a six-time All-Star, finished his 20-year career with a 216-146 record and a 3.46 ERA. The 47-year-old played for the Baltimore Orioles, Houston Astros, Philadelphia Phillies, Arizona Diamondbacks and Red Sox.
