Diego Costa turned those frowns at the Vicente Calderon Stadium upside down by scoring a sensational goal on Tuesday.

In the third minute of Atletico Madrid’s UEFA Champions League game against AC Milan, Costa flew through the air — in the kung-fu tradition — and volleyed Koke’s cross past AC Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati.

Costa’s early strike, and the one he scored late in the game, powered Atletico Madrid to a 4-1 victory in the second leg of its Round-of-16 series against the Italians.

Costa’s kung-fu goal joins his overhead kick against Getafe and his solo goal against Austria Vienna among his most spectacular goals this season.

Costa has now scored seven goals in five Champions League games and 29 goals in 39 games (in all competitions) in an impressive 2013-14 campaign.

The 25-year-old Brazilian-born striker earned controversially elected to play for Spain after earning Spanish citizenship late last year. Last Wednesday, Costa finally debuted for Spain but was widely criticized for an indifferent performance in Spain’s 1-0 win over Italy, which, coincidentally, took place at the Vicente Calderon Stadium.

Six days and two wins later, Costa is back to doing what he does best.
