The road to the Stanley Cup Final from the Eastern Conference got a lot more competitive Wednesday, when several Atlantic and Metropolitan division teams made moves to improve their rosters at the NHL trade deadline.
In addition to the division leaders — the Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins — every team currently in a playoff spot made a trade to get better over the last week. The Montreal Canadiens, who acquired star winger Thomas Vanek from the New York Islanders on Wednesday, have become a legitimate threat in the East.
