Montreal Canadiens backup goalie Dustin Tokarski allowed three second-period goals Wednesday night in Anaheim, but he really can’t be held responsible for this one.
With the Canadiens leading the Ducks 2-1 midway through the second, Anaheim winger Francois Beauchemin carried the puck into the neutral zone and let fly what he thought would be a wraparound clear attempt. Tokarski thought that, too, but when he moved to play the puck behind the net, Beauchemin’s shot caromed off a seam in the boards and redirected right into the open net.
The Ducks went on to take a 3-2 lead later in the frame, but after that, Tokarski took over. Playing in his first NHL game in nearly two years, the 24-year-old recorded a career-high 39 saves and held the high-flying Ducks scoreless for the final 26-plus minutes.
The game ended in a six-round shootout, with Andrei Markov eventually giving the Habs the win.
