Louisville Warns Students ‘Couch Fires Aren’t Cool’ Before Kentucky Game

As Louisville prepares to take on in-state rival Kentucky in the Sweet 16 this Friday, the school has just one request of the student body: Be nice to the couches, guys.

There was many a couch casualty on Kentucky’s Lexington campus in 2012 after the Anthony Davis-led Wildcats knocked out Louisville in the Final Four en route to a national championship. Kentucky was the nation’s undisputed No. 1 team entering that tourney, while the Cardinals stormed their way to the national semis as an unheralded No. 4 seed.

Louisville will be the favored squad this time around — despite their No. 4 seed, the defending champion Cardinals are an overwhelmingly popular Final Four pick — but any victory over Kentucky is cause for riotous celebration.

That’s what the administration is trying to avoid, hence the warning signs posted around campus.
